Cardinal Gracias was born on 24 December 1944 in Bombay. He studied for the priesthood in Bombay and was ordained on 20 December 1970.
He was secretary to the Bishop of Jamshedpur from 1971 to 1976 before undertaking further studies in canon law in Rome at the Pontifical Urbanian University.
He returned to Bombay in 1982 and held various judicial roles.
Pope John Paul II appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of Bombay on 28 June 1997. He was consecrated on 16 September 1997 by Cardinal Dias, with the titular see of Bladia.
Pope John Paul II then appointed him Archbishop of Agra on 7 September 2000. Pope Benedict XVI appointed him as Archbishop of Bombay on 14 October 2006 and made him a cardinal on 24 November 2007.
2. Cardinal Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy
Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy (born February 5, 1924) is an Indian Cardinal of theRoman Catholic Church. He is the Prefect emeritus of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches in the Roman Curia, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1985. His episcopical motto is Aedificare domum Dei which means To build the house of God.
He is the 4th cardinal from India and the first curial cardinal of Asia outside of the Middle East.
Pope John Paul II created Lourdusamy Cardinal-Deacon of Santa Maria delle Grazie alle Fornaci fuori Porta Cavalleggeri in the consistory of May 25, 1985; he is the first Tamil to be raised to the rank of cardinal. Lourdusamy was named Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches on the following October 30, and later resigned the post on May 24, 1991.
Attended the Second Extraordinary Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, Vatican City, November 24 to December 8, 1985; Attended the Seventh Ordinary Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, Vatican City, October 1 to 30, 1987. He became Cardinal Protodeacon (the senior Cardinal-Deacon) on April 5, 1993, and served as a special papal legate to the funeral of Mother Teresa on September 13, 1997. On April 5, 1993 was appointed protodeacon. He chose to become a Cardinal-Priest on January 29, 1996.
From the history of the cause of Mother Teresa's cause for sainthood: "24 September 2002 In Ordinary Session, the Cardinals and Bishops of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints (CCS), after hearing the report of His Eminence, Simon Cardinal Lourdusamy, the Proposer [Ponens] of the Cause, unanimously recognize that the Servant of God Mother Teresa of Calcutta practiced the theological, cardinal and other annexed virtues to a heroic decree."
His Eminence has visited 110 countries on all continents, tirelessly carrying out the work and mission of the Church and at the service of Popes Blessed John XXIII, Venerable Paul VI, Venerable John Paul I, and Blessed John Paul II, also receiving numerous distinctions in appreciation of his work and has been honored by the Governments of Philippines, Taiwan, China, France, and Germany. Cardinal Pimenta was born in Marol, a suburb of Bombay, on March 1, 1920. He was ordained on December 21, 1949. Before coming to Rome to study at the Pontifical College of St. Peter the Apostle, he served as assistant parish priest in Bombay and worked with the Bombay Curia. In 1954, Pimenta graduated in Canon Law at the Urban University. He returned to India, where he had many different assignments, before being named Bishop of Bocconia on June 5, 1971. On February 26, 1977, Paul VI named him Coadjutor of Bombay, and subsequently, Archbishop on September 11, 1978. He has served as President of the Indian Episcopal Conference and was elevated to the cardinalate during the Consistory of June 28, 1988, by John Paul II.

Cardinal Toppo was born on 15 October 1939 in Chainpur (India), the 8th of 10 children.
He studied in Ranchi and Rome. He speaks his native Oraon, as well as Hindu, Sadri, English and Italian.
He was ordained a priest on 3 May 1969.
He was appointed Bishop of Dumka on 8 June 1978 and consecrated on 7 October 1978 by Archbishop Kerkatta of Ranchi.
He was appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Ranchi on 8 November 1984 and succeeded to full governance of the Archdiocese on 7 August 1985.
